Keep Santa Fe Multicultural

  • A colorful mural mural depicting various scenes of community and history, including people, a windmill, and architectural elements, behind a chain-link fence with a sign that reads, 'Do not erase our history. A nation that forgets its past has no future.'

    How it began

In February 2020, I created a billboard that helped to lead the campaign to save the historic Chicano mural entitled Multicultural. For more information on this piece check out the link below.

  • A building with a large mural depicting historical or cultural scenes, partially obscured by a banner reading 'HANDS OFF OUR CULTURE' in bold black letters.

    "HANDS OFF OUR CULTURE"!

Through grassroots organizing we led actions in 2020 and 2021. In all of these actions we used banners, sculpture, and signs as a way to defend this mural through the creation of art. Protest art has been prevalent in my practice. It is doubly significant because these ephemeral works were meant to speak to the maintenance and permanence of the mural.

  • Street view of a mural on a building, with banners that say "GENTRIFICATION IS ERASURE" multiple times.
